Game Rant can exclusively reveal a behind-the-scenes video documenting the making of the droid bar scene from The Mandalorian Season 3. The clip is part of the bonus features from the upcoming Blu-ray set containing The Mandalorian's latest season.

A droid bar called The Resistor was featured in the sixth episode of The Mandalorian Season 3, Guns for Hire, which premiered on April 5, 2023. While The Resistor scene is brief, it helps move the plot forward, lightens the mood with some humor, and serves to establish a few additional lore tidbits about Plazir-15, the planet where the episode takes place.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie May Not Be as Far Along as Fans Thought

The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is the next feature film in the Star Wars franchise, but a rumor about its filming progress may have been wrong.

Ahead of the release of The Mandalorian: The Complete Third Season, Disney shared a video from the 4K Blu-ray set's bonus features, which Game Rant can now exclusively reveal. The 91-second clip offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the droid bar scene was filmed, including some remarks from property master Josh Roth, who calls this segment "a total flip-flop" of the Mos Eisley Cantina from Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope. Namely, while the Tatooine establishment depicted in the 1977 film has a strict no-droid policy¡ªwhich results in C-3PO getting kicked out¡ªThe Resistor has an all-droid policy.

The scene featured 34 droids in total, which key mechanical artist Rick Galinson says was a record for The Mandalorian. Some of the larger droids were played by costumed humans, while the smaller ones were remote-controlled. The part where the entire bar turns toward the Mandalorian and Bo-Katan in disbelief was particularly challenging to film, as the crew didn't have enough operators to handle all of the puppets. "We each had two or three radios in front of us and had to stretch our fingers and do what we could on each one," Galinson recalled.

Legacy effects special costume manufacturer Dawn Dininger substantiates this account later on during the video, explaining that she was moving around one of the smaller R2 puppets with one hand while controlling the head of a drunk droid with another. In spite of these challenges, The Mandalorian director Bryce Dallas Howard labeled this scene as her favorite part of the entire episode.

This behind-the-scenes look at Guns for Hire is part of Galactic Legacy: The Creatures and Droids of The Mandalorian, one of the bonus features from The Mandalorian: The Complete Third Season. The 4K Blu-ray set has been available for pre-order since October 31. Loki Season Two, Hawkeye Season One, Ahsoka Season One, and The Mandalorian Season Three will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray for the first time on December 3.
